Our Story
For most of her childhood, Lindsey believed the problem was her.
She was the kid who always tried but still could not keep up. Running in PE usually meant chest tightness, headaches, and the embarrassment of being the one left behind. At the time, no one really paid attention to her struggling, so she kept going and assumed it was just something she had to put up with. Later, it turned out that the reason for her struggles was undiagnosed and untreated asthma. Those early experiences stayed with her and eventually became part of the reason Carefree Allergy exists today.
Over time, Lindsey stopped picturing certain things for herself. She was not the fast runner, and she was rarely the one picked first for the team. She got used to finishing second or falling a little short, not because she lacked effort, but because she kept trying and slowly learned where her limits were.
Instead of giving up, she turned inward and focused on her own path. She set personal goals and pushed herself quietly, building a strong sense of determination that most people around her never noticed.
Then one year something different happened.
Up until then, PE had mostly meant struggling to keep up. Running was hard, and it usually ended the same way, out of breath and behind everyone else, but that year her PE teacher took a different approach. Instead of rewarding the fastest student, he gave the award to Lindsey in recognition of her perseverance. He saw the effort she was putting in, even when things were difficult.
Not long after that, a school nurse finally noticed what had been overlooked for years. Lindsey was diagnosed with asthma. For the first time, there was an explanation for what she had been experiencing, and more importantly, there was a way to treat it.
Once her asthma was properly managed, things started to feel different. Breathing during exercise was no longer a constant struggle, and activities that once felt overwhelming became manageable. For the first time, she could push herself without feeling like her body was working against her.
That experience stayed with her. It shaped the path she chose and the kind of care she wanted to provide to others. Lindsey went on to become a nurse, then a nurse practitioner, and eventually founded Carefree Allergy.
Her approach is simple. Just like her, many people living with asthma and allergies have learned to accept daily limitations as normal. They assume certain activities are just not for them, but often the real problem is that their condition has not been properly identified or treated.
At Carefree Allergy, the goal is to understand what patients are experiencing and find the cause behind it. When the right treatment is in place, small changes can make a big difference. People breathe easier, move more comfortably, and start doing things they may have avoided for years. Sometimes the biggest change is realizing that life does not have to feel limited anymore.
